Картина написана по мотивам поэмы «Русла́н и Людми́ла» Алекса́ндра Серге́евича Пу́шкина. События поэмы предваряются вступлением, в котором описан волшебный край — Лукоморье. Там, от учёного кота, автор и русалка услышали эту сказку. Главные персонажи картины славянская русалка и кот «ученый», а леший где-то бродит.
По славянским поверьям, русалки обитают в лесу на высоких деревьях, дубе или липе.
Русалки в славянской мифологии это не морские полудевы-полурыбы, а обычные женщины с ногами, без всяких хвостов. Они имеют привлекательный облик. Выглядят как девушки и женщины с распущенными светлыми волосами и венками на голове. Русалки считаются покровительницами плодородия. Особенно активны русалки также в ночь на Иван Купала с 6 на 7 июля.

I live and work in Kyiv. In 1979 he graduated from the Kyiv Civil Engineering Institute, Faculty of Architecture. Worked in central design organizations in Kyiv I have a certificate in architecture. Member of the Union of Architects of Ukraine since 1997.
He studied drawing and painting in the studio of the Honored Artist of Ukraine Oleksiy Arkhipovich Gorbenko.
In my works I try to follow the traditions of the Russian realistic school of painting.
