The newly minted Chinese middle class of Shenzhen have a fascination with and the disposable cash to explore the things of Western Culture, from seeing it firsthand as tourists, to collecting bric a brac that you or I might consider throwaways.

Interestingly, the cultural magpieism of The Chinese "Touhai" ("Nouveau Riche") is however for the most part devoid of any contextual knowledge of the objects they purchase, resulting in some unintentionaly surreal and in this instance rather dark, bordering on sinister feng shui.

The grimacing limbless doll and partially disfigured clown are perfect companions in sentiment, stark contrast to the cheery bouquets of pink roses that almost seem to mock the two figures. The whole a cultural mash up that whilst jarring to Western eyes is largely non apparent when viewed through the prism of Eastern culture...

...Or is it?

I've been exhibiting since the late 1970's. I transitioned into computer art in the mid 1990's and currently output exclusivly digital work. My primary mediums include pixel painting and drawing, digitaized photography, and 3d modeling and design. My focus is to produce works... that have the warmth and feel of classic art forms, yet are 100% digital..." Andrew is based in Venice, CA, where he works as a freelance artist.
