Andreas Montag is a contemporary German sculptor whose journey into the world of art began in childhood with an interest in painting and drawing. This early passion for art continued through his school years and led to an internship in a printing shop, where he gained experience in the craft of offset printing while completing his vocational diploma in design. Although offset printing is his profession, Montag's true calling lies in sculpture, to which he dedicates all his free time.
Montag works with a variety of soft rocks, including limestone, alabaster, sculptor's marble, and serpentine, as well as clay. His sculptures are known for their intricate craftsmanship, embodying the traditions of old sculptors. Each piece typically features a base that complements the overall design, often made from beech wood combined with metal shafts or old cylinder bearings. This blend of stone, metal, and wood creates a visually appealing interplay of materials.
His works are representational and cover a wide range of themes. They include grotesque figures reminiscent of the Renaissance, surreal sculptures, and pieces that align with fantastic realism. Montag's sculptures reflect a high level of skill and artistic vision, making him a notable figure in contemporary sculpture.
