Her lips sealed in drowning waves. Agony of unuttered words roots through her eyes, without pupils. Scarred and fissured, she bleeds profusely. Her body cycle is disrupted. However, her third eye is awake. She knows how to retain her composure in the internalization of pain.

“Bleeding mute” is a depiction of the mother earth who is violated and polluted beyond limits. Her voice is heard only through her wounds. Yet, in her self erasure of lips and raging hair, she reminds that it is high time to reckon with her silence.
The red spread along with the white space and soil hue makes the painting a perfect match, if you are looking for earth colours. You may gift it to yourself as a little gesture of acknowledging the bestowals of mother earth. You may gift it to someone whom you know to have endured hardships and yet, surmounting them with grace. You may also request for a poem in accord with the painting. And, you will get the poem as a memento of my relationship with you, formed through the painting, without any extra charges.

Dr.  Susmita Chatterjee alias Aloakash is a wanderer of waves through meanings. An academician by training, she completed her PhD on the  warrior goddess Durga, from  Jawaharlal Nehru University, India. In her doctoral and post doctoral works, Dr. Chatterjee worked on unravelling the voices of the divine female and showed how the feminine principalities had been gradually muted in South Asia. During the course of her extensive travels and meetings with autochthonous groups, her perspectives on the contemporary understandings and modalities of looking into the cultural pejoratives of the female as ‘the other’ was shaped differently. She felt that the  lenses which categorise the reverence of the female and feminine as a  ‘castrating mother’ is not an isolated way of ‘looking at’ and has to be placed in the plethora of the development of western thought and its interaction with Indic traditions. The subjective experience of a woman who grew up in the South Asian patriarchal  society which idealises the divine as a female had it’s own impact on her world view.

Profusely acquainted with Western and Indic philosophical praxis, she focussed on exploring the feminine voice within. She started painting to illustrate her philosophical writings in which she tried to express her understandings of ancient writings in contemporary transliterations. Gradually, the world of colours drew her in. Her writings and paintings cover different genres, both in form and content. She has created multiple artworks, ranging from rich oil paintings to simple line drawings. Her eclectic approach to colours, shapes and geometric patterns, with bold brush work makes her works unique. Experimentations with the depiction of space is one of the key components of her visual language She uses her paintings, along with narration and/or music to heal people from different parts of the globe. And that is how Aloakash is born.

Aloakash is a moment of the recognition of becoming. Aloakash is also the cognition of differences of  different eyes that constitute a plurality of I in the singularity of body-space.

The brush moves on the   canvas. Strokes.  I look for me. I have opted to display my artworks in gallery mode, only recently. Treasuring the open of the  journey of different i-s, I welcome you  in the travelogue.
