John Dotson
Born in 1953 i was raised in the mtns of Tennessee. I have come to the belief that there are two kinds of people iinthe world: those who live in Tennessee, and those who wish they did!!
Having seen beyound the Box of my people they maintain their lack of vision.
My art contains a lot of nude fems, but then again true spirituality comes from the feminine energys first, mostly, and we male types provide the physical, material aspect. This is best expressed when the female either in love or just her own animal passions mingles with the male and creates something - sometimes a life, or bringing the vision or dream to life.
i recieved very little "professional" training; I began at an early age to hold a pencil and draw, or look at images and take them to make my own story or vision. By the time i did get a degree in art I had been doing and selling on a semi-commercial level for 30-plus years. That was in the early 90's. I had been selling art on a fairly good level scale since 1975, outselling the person who introduced me to pigments like oils.
I quickly moved away from oils to acrylic, allowing me more freedom and speed in my works, and a wider range of subjects. I studied Frazetta, Kirby, and other illustrators and artists of similar vein; i moved into fantasy and expressions of human spirituality and omse more real subject "fairy art" which covers more than bug-wings on babes.
I was moving into expressions of what later was to be knopwn as Quantum mechanics, Quantum universes, and creation via Super String Theory, but back then i didn't know what that was, it simply poured out of me.
I'm also influenced by van Gough who it seems may have also had my visions of beyound this reality we commonly see and know. We call it Expressionism, but is it really more?
Good question; I'll let you know if Id

ABOUT ME!! I'M A GREAT READ!!!
My name is john Dotson, I was born in the hills of Tennessee back in 1953.
I've been studying at since I was three; when I could hold a pencil I was drawing; ofter disappointed as a child I could not do as well as painters and illustrators of the time.
Growing up my schools had no real art classes, and I never had any formal training until 1990 or so, a mail order class in Minnesota. It really was a good school. Contributing teachers included successful illustrators such a Jack Kirby and Frank Frazetta, and more commercial names I recognized from my decades of going through magazines such as look, Life, New Yorker, Playboy (yes, I also looked at illustrations and who did them(!) and read the articles that interested me in Playboy!!). At one time Jeffery Jones and Frank Frazetta did lots of Illustrations in Playboy; also Boyscout, and the old Creepy- Erie type zines!!
I'm also a big fan of van Gough, “Starry Nights” one of my favorites.
One of the down points of being in Tennessee in the mountains was there was no way to get out other than to depend on mail. It never occurred to me to even try to send works to these or other magazines. I was content with selling my works at flea markets, and one art guild that let me show at their once a year shows.
Now I'm seeing if after all thee years something could be done still with the skills I have nowadays.
The last decade or so I've been experimenting in pastels & watercolor with some success. I'm very happy with this, perhaps I can dl some of them here, see what you think.
Supposedly someone tried to buy oe of my works. Dunno who; I have undergone some health/family changes that are rather radical; I forgot I even had this site; figured they'd have deleted it by now anyway.
So check the new info on here, maybe the works listed are still around; or maybe I can redo some of them for ya. Give me a call on one of my phone numbers, and we'll discuss the possibilities.
HITCH HIKER'S GUIDE TO THE GALAXY:
... "DON'T PANIC!!!"
Also; no matter how bad things are they can get a lot worse. (mathimatically proven truth)
When she says let's get married, try not to throw the pre-marital parental test in too quickly - or crudely, but might get it in before getting hitched, if your maybe not being the father is a problem. Apparently was to Arnold's wife...
You think you've got good luck? Buy lottery tickets for the big drawings; see how long it takes to win the big one.
MAJOR OXYMORON: FUNDAMENTALISTS CHRISTIANITY! their only reason to read the Bible seems to be which one of the Beatitudes they can spit on. Just for one example. Every thing Jesus blessed they curse. Where did Jesus look down his nose at the poor and down-trodden?
Jesus put magick in our lives; Fundies stripped us down to less than human and less than them if our bank accounts and lifestyle didn't match their own. Q: how long did it take them to afford decent shoes?? Used to be muddy boots or even bare feet to church for them long ago.
I prefer my God out of doors and bare-foot, or even bare-assed. He or She don't seem to mind, and i would think likes the happiness and joys Her Children find in the group gathering and fun!! Dancing the bonfires, touching each pther, loving in the dying embers, everybody happy amd conmtent. Beats the heck out of falling asleep in a building with someone droning out their mindless messages every Sunday. or whenever.
AWARDS...NONE.
i did get nice big checks when the others were getting their pretty ribbons back in the 80's when I was allowed in the Spring City Art league; but that was long ago. Since the lady died who ran it they never let me exibit again, but then again, they folded twenty yrs back, so biggie.
MY WORKSHOP??
CHANGES FROM YEAR TO YEAR... NEVER IN ONE PLACE VERY LONG IT SEEMS.
