The art of decorating festive processions, clothes, interiors with fresh flowers, leaves, branches, fruits and other decorative materials has a long history. This is evidenced by the samples of applied and decorative arts, architecture, painting, poetry that have come down to us.

Human use of flowers dates back to the Bronze Age. One of the oldest vessels that could well have been used for flowers dates back to the middle of the Bronze Age. Its massive leg ends with six gracefully shaped necks, into each of which flowers could be inserted. The uses of plants were very varied. Initially, when various natural materials (feathers, shells) were widely used for decoration, separate branches, flowers, leaves were often used.

In ancient Egypt, flowers were widely used to decorate palaces. In ancient times, statues of gods were also decorated with branches of various plants. At first, only individual flowers served as decoration. For example, lotus flowers were placed in front of the image of the deity. This custom is still preserved in Buddhist temples. At large festivals, women carried flowers in their hands.

Even in the vases that adorned the homes of the Egyptians, there was not one hole for a bouquet, as now, but many small holes where individual flowers were inserted. Subsequently, they began to be combined into bouquets, garlands of mallow, saffron, lotus petals. Sometimes the plants were perfectly preserved, some of them were found after thousands of years.
