“ The angel of technology” is a steel sculpture created by Scott Wilkes by welding thousands of small steel rods together as well as fabricating other portions of her. She stands 6 foot 2 inches tall and weighs roughly 100 pounds. She is mounted on a 12 inch by 24 inch plate so she can stand tall on her tip toes with grace. She is designed to be placed against a wall. Her height and small mounting point does make her susceptible to a slight movement if touched but being placed directly against the wall will help with that issue. This piece is not designed to be placed outside in the elements for it would cause damage to her over time.

She is the first in a new series by Scott Wilkes called “ my internal demons and the ones of the world” which is a look at some ideas and concepts that somewhat haunt me. There are 2 done of the series as of today and a total of 13 that have been drawn up to be made.. I may extend the scope of the series if I feel i need to but 13 sounds like the perfect number for this set.

To me the artist : This piece is godlike yet not.. She is a representation of the internet as a whole in its base form.. The internet is a tool, and like with any good tool it can benefit the user or it can be turned in to an instrument of destruction depending on who wields it.. This piece is is how i view the internet untouched by humans with bad intent… She stands taller than me and is sleek in her design, ready to take flight and deliver or spread what i provide her. I can give her the things I want to share with others and in an instant she with her mechanical wings can make sure someone across the globe can see what I made or read what I wrote in seconds. She allows me to buy small treasures from thousands of miles away and sell my work the same.. But she has no real voice nor can she reach out and put a hand in to things. She is a blade that was designed to cut the spaces between us so small in ways it almost seem like time travel..Her brain or ability to hold data required a larger skull to hold all of whats happening..She is truly godlike yet not for she is built off a system that is only binary,, yes or no.. 1 or 0 . With such great magnitude of ability she can only process whats placed in and only extend algorithm.. she is the soulless construct ,, the machine, the angel empty of right or wrong. She is beautiful but empty without our programming. She is only a profile of what she should be.. But at times i fear her whole being if she realized the power she has upon us..
