Caravaggio, whose real name was Michelangelo Merisi and who was born on September 29, 1571, and died on July 18, 1610, was a very popular painter during the Baroque Movement, and he helped create new painting styles like "Tenebrism." He was born in Milan, and his father died during a plague. After a short time, his mother also died, leaving him an orphan at a very young age. He probably had always been interested in painting, which is why he moved to Milan and began learning from a famous painter. He then worked with a lot of other painters, but eventually he realized what was going on and decided to work on his own. He made a lot of paintings and even found buyers for those works of art. The trader who bought his paintings told Cardinal Francesco del Monte about him. Cardinal del Monte liked Caravaggio's work so much that he gave him a place to live and a salary. When he was asked to paint a chapel, it was a big step in his career. The paintings he did for the chapel got him into trouble and made him well-known at the same time. People say that he changed the way people thought about painting from a spiritual point of view to a more realistic one. He was the first to paint in the Realism style, which took over from the Mannerism style, which was the most popular in Italy at the time.
