Biography
Wim Van De Wege is a contemporary Dutch landscape painter known for his impressionistic and sometimes abstract “action painting” style. Born in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen in 1966, he is recognized for creating paintings that offer viewers a captivating and enigmatic landscape experience through a blend of various techniques and materials. The atmosphere within his work is a crucial element, and van de Wege aims to communicate his artistic message by evoking a strong sense of place and emotion in the viewer.
His approach to painting is spontaneous, often involving direct application of colors and shapes onto the canvas. During plein air painting workshops he leads, students frequently note his swift and precise technique, which contributes to the lively and spontaneous quality of his artwork, sometimes characterized by thick layers of paint and a rough texture.
After completing his conservatory diploma, he studied at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where he engaged deeply with modern art. This exposure influenced his unique and sometimes innovative artistic approach, often challenging traditional values and presenting a creative and visual manifesto. Despite his modern art influences, he has always been drawn to the beauty and allure of nature, preferring the freedom of plein air painting over studio work. His landscapes frequently feature expansive skies, which he uses to highlight the dynamic and ever-changing cloudscapes.
In addition to his painting career, Wim Van De Wege has spent many years teaching visual design at the secondary school level. He now works full-time as an artist in his studio in Bunschoten-Spakenburg, frequently painting outdoors to capture the elements of water, wind, and air in various weather conditions.
He has exhibited extensively across the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, England, and the USA, with his works held in numerous private and public collections in over 40 countries.

Nieuwe serie Flowers in a vase
Ik ben gestart met een nieuwe serie schilderijen met het thema Flowers in a vase. In een vlotte, expressionistische stijl heb ik een serie bloemen geschilderd op papier. Daarvoor heb ik gebruik gemaakt van acryl en pastel om de vlotte stijl te accentueren.
De serie is te koop voor een erg vriendelijke prijs.

WIntergift series Zeeland
De laatste maand ben ik volop bezig met de Wintergift series paintings in een klein formaat 18x13 cm en 25x20 cm. De provincie Zeeland ( mijn woonstek) is voor mij een onuitputtelijke bron aan inspiratie. Zowel de landschappen als de beroemde stranden vormen de basis voor de tientallen werken van de afgelopen jaren. Ik hoop nog veel kunstwerken te maken van en uit deze provincie.

About me
Wim van de Wege was born in 1966. He uses wide range of techniques and materials. He will commit everything that takes his interest to paper, cardboard or canvas. He prefers to work thematically: series of stilllives, flowers, landscapes and architecture.
He successively studied organ and piano at the Brabants Conservatorium, Dutch at the Highschool Rotterdam and visual arts and art at the Willem de Koning Academie.
Last year he took Zeeland as his subject-theme. Various landscapes are shown in a grand way and on every work of art the characteristic scenery of Zeeland can be found. Space in the landscape creates freedom. Above the skies: together they mix in a magnificant magic-realisme image.
Tension between freedom and threat can be read in the almost impressionistic style of Wim van de bination with the used techniques offer the spectator a fascinating and mysterious atmosphere of the landscapes.
