Thierry Brusquet is a contemporary French artist based in Rochefort, known for blending classical techniques with abstract expression. Born in 1961 in Marseille, Brusquet’s artistic journey began with traditional classical painting, evolving over time into minimalist and expressionist abstract work. After studying art in the 1980s at the Beaux-Arts in Marseille, he spent a year in the studio of Provençal painter Mrs. Thoubillon de Montcroc, which helped shape his artistic sensibility.

Brusquet’s process combines meticulous preparation with intuitive expression. He applies gesso to his canvases, sanding them to a smooth surface before adding gold leaf using ancient techniques. Once the groundwork is laid, he allows spontaneity and intuition to guide his abstract compositions, resulting in works that are both modern and timeless.

His paintings are characterized by minimalist forms, chic luminosity from the gold leaf, and a harmonious blend of modern and classical elements. After a period as an antique dealer, Brusquet returned to painting, embracing abstract art as a new, avant-garde outlet for his creativity.
