Stéphane Korb

Je suis né en 1954 dans une famille de musiciens. Mes premiers souvenirs sont dans la musique, les seconds sont les voyages lointains en Chine, en Corée et en Russie que me racontais mon père.

Puis Chris Marker m’a présenté à Marc Riboud auprès de qui j’ai appris le travail de photo reporter. De là je suis parti en Australie rencontrer Ian Conway le chasseur de chameaux, Vic Hislop qui pêchait le requin-tigre pour l'artiste Damien Hirst et je me suis arrêté pendant un certain temps pour vivre avec les Aborigènes du Nord du Queensland.

J’ai ensuite mis autant de passion à traquer les œufs de Fabergé à New York, à suivre le faussaire David Stein dans le monde, à mettre mes pas dans ceux de Rostropovitch à Moscou ou a faire des photos d’Yves Montand.

En 2000 j'ai ajouté des pinceaux à mon Leica pour créer des œuvres sur ma mémoire et la mémoire collective que j’expose en France et quelquefois au japon ou je vais régulièrement.
J’ai publié les textes et les photographies de plusieurs livres: Esprits d’Australie sur les pistes d'Australie (Ed romain pages 2000), Yves Montand (éd. Jean-Claude Gawsewitch 2011) Clefs pour le Japon (Mémoires d’artistes éditeur 2014) Marc Riboud Filmé par Stéphane Korb (editions Unicité en 2023 ) et co-écrit des textes de chansons avec mon père Francis Lemarque.


I was born in 1954 into a family of musicians. My earliest memories are intertwined with music, and the subsequent ones revolve around distant travels to China, Korea, and Russia that my father used to tell me about.

Then, Chris Marker introduced me to Marc Riboud, from whom I learned the craft of photojournalism. From there, I journeyed to Australia to meet Ian Conway, the camel hunter, Vic Hislop, who fished tiger sharks for the artist Damien HIRST. I paused for a while to live with the Aborigines in Northern Queensland.
I then devoted equal passion to hunting Fabergé eggs in New York, following the forger David Stein around the world, walking in the footsteps of Rostropovich in Moscow, and taking photos of Yves Montand.

In 2000, I added brushes to my Leica to create works on my own memory and collective memory, which I exhibit in France and occasionally in Japan a place I visit regularly.

I have published texts and photographs in several books: "Esprits d’Australie sur les pistes d'Australie" (Ed Romain Pages 2000), "Yves Montand" (Ed. Jean-Claude Gawsewitch 2011), "Clefs pour le Japon" (Mémoires d’artistes éditeur 2014), "Marc Riboud Filmé par Stéphane Korb" (Editions Unicité in 2023), and co-authored song lyrics with my father, Francis Lemarque.
