Biography
Sonja Smeyers is a contemporary Belgian sculptor. For over 20 years, she lived in Africa where she discovered the pleasure of modeling and sculpting with clay and where she truly gets her inspiration to perform and create artworks.
An advanced knowledge of the human anatomy and skin texture is a key factor in Smeyers’s sculpting designs. Her sensual sculptures of pure and innocent girls, with intense beauty, come to life in artisanal cast bronze. Floating with wings of handmade glass and bronze, they refer to heaven and earth.
Sonja Smeyers was born in 1963, in Belgium.

"Carry me Home" - Grande
After 6 months it is an immense and rewarding feeling to see my life-size sculpture in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga/South-Africa. “Carry me Home” is 3 meters tall and can be seen at the Casterbridge Lifestyle Centre in White River. After I sculpted the statue in clay, and by utilizing the 6,000-year-old lost-wax technique, I went through a long and massive amount of work with a dedicated and skilled team to get my statue casted into the exceptional and beautiful metal, which is bronze.
