Welcome to THE BUTTERFLY MONOLOGUES OF A RED NEGRESS! A chronicle of my Diasporic Revelations, [the AGONY and the EXSTASY] of a Nomadic Journey of Wanderlust and Self Discovery by Artist Serinity Knight.
Welcome to THE BUTTERFLY MONOLOGUES OF A RED NEGRESS! A chronicle of my Diasporic Revelations, [the AGONY and the EXSTASY] of a Nomadic Journey of Wanderlust and Self Discovery.
THE [BMOARN] BUTTERFLY MONOLOGUES OF A RED NEGRESS is an ARTIST OUTLOOK on some of the people-places and things – I have encountered as you will see remnants of all my life influences, experiences bound from all my life travels and the collective stories along the way.
BIOGRAPHY:
The Butterfly Goes through four stages to become adult butterfly. The process is called Metamorphosis. the egg, are laid on plants to enable the larvae (caterpillar)(later stage), to get the food from plant leaves and spends most of its time eating. When it has finished growing, the Caterpillar forms a protection shield called Pupa . Most of the transformation takes place in side Pupa (chrysalis), and then it becomes an adult butterfly. Butterfly: When the Pupa has finished transformation the Butterfly emerges from the Pupa. The adult Butterfly lays eggs on plants after mating period. The four generations are actually four different butterflies going through these four stages during one year until it is time to start over again with stage one and generation one.
The beginning of my Metamorphosis [the name for rapid transformation of a larva into an adult] occurred in the grand river rapids of West Michigan of Southern transient migratory NATIVE-AFRO-EURASIAN AMERICAN ANCESTRY.
I am the girl-WOMAN with TETHERED wings, cocooned in stasis waiting on my next transformation and metamorphosis into flight. As the daughter of a crestfallen former professional athlete, architect, tailor and serious renaissance master artist father, and a mother who was an illustrator, seamstress and school teacher. My childhood was divided between the physical labor of learning how to build walls from scratch, working power tools to running track, reading the encyclopedia every summer to imaginative play and creating my own art world.

ARTIST PERSONAL STATEMENT AND PROCESS
ARTIST STATEMENT
"Chaos often breeds life, when order breeds habit."
– Henry Adams
Although, I primarily consider myself to be a mixedmedia artist, I am emotionally and physically bound with the spiritual process of transforming wet clay into a workable state, caring for it in the drying stage and praying for it during the fire to
reach a finished state. Unlike clay, I am still a work in progress not having reached a finished state of being yet; but A GREAT SPIRIT is still working on me.
I am curiously fascinated with the mystery of the human condition, sacred connection to the earth and ancestral ties. As well as the beauty of form enjoying the interactive qualities of observation, sensuality, reflection and independence in bringing forth works that celebrates a sense of my womanness and the liberation of my spirit. Creating art can be both physically
challenging and emotionally difficult for me since I choose to work from the isolation of my own understanding.
As a body of work, I have created a series of ‘Spirit Healing vessel sculptures’, that take on various figurative forms giving insight of my past, present and projected future state[s] of being. The acknowledgment of weakness and the discovery of personal power are parts of the same story and both interest me equally. Transformation through art has become my saving grace helping to restore my faith, joy and [find] a renewed sense of purpose to carve my niche into a world so critical of the artist.
My greatest concern as a sculptor is to convey the illusion that deals with the internal mysteries of life and personal discovery, as a state of being and not the obvious or readily seen. The journey has been long suffering trying to create from the spirit where and which this work comes from, but there is nothing else I'd rather be doing.
My [ART] can be classified as Contemporary Figurative Surrealism; the images are sensationalized from materialized emotions that are not sustained in reality but in the subconscious soul. The work is not all personal or self portraits but an
extension of my thoughts, [good or bad], life experiences and observations.
Paradoxically they are also a mirror, reflecting the viewer’s own mind and perceptions about me back at them as my main concern is a deeper sense of communication on a rather than superficial ideologies. I want others to experience where my emotions have been, what I and others have suffered, triumphantly overcame the odds.
I allow my inner self to let go, with the help of my hands, those spirit beings that reside within me, with all their own strengths and personalities. They emerge claiming and creating their own space My hands are only the door to their
physical existence leaving my spirit free. Each is a pieced together memory like a soul dialog between me and you. When I am gone and archaeologists’ pulls SHARDS of my pieces from the earth, I want them to connect with me through the ages, instinctively as one human gazing at another.
