" The Holes In My Ill Fitting Armor " Is the earliest sculpture work by Scott Wilkes. Made from hundreds of varied sized steel plates welded together to create a rough yet smooth male form. He stands 40.5" tall and 21" wide and 13" deep and weighs 77 pounds. Unlike most of my pieces this one has a front and back side. He is mounted on a steel plate to stand upright and firm. This piece is somewhat of a self portrait and my first figurative sculpture. This piece was made soon after my divorce from a woman I had been married to for 16 years. To Me: It is a representation of the how unprepared I was for this horrible emotional battle I had to face with her, as much as myself, and the scars it left upon me.. broken, battered, missing pieces with holes which left me unguarded and defenseless in areas. Crude and rusted in spots, it weathered the storm as best as possible, and although wounded, I live to tell the story.
