Pino Procopio , born Giuseppe Antonio Procopio, (Guardavalle, June 16, 1954), is an Italian painter, sculptor and illustrator exponent of figurative art. Artistic studies started at the Art School of Catanzaro, but completed in Rome, where, in 1982, he graduated in Architecture at the “La Sapienza” University.
I was driven by the need to communicate emotions.
I could have passed them on through my architecture studios, but, I chose figurative art .
I paint events of everyday life , making them surreal, with fantastic and deformed figures, as if reflected by convex mirrors . In mythologies, I describe the tale of the Greek gods, their weaknesses, loves, conflicts, passions, deceptions and betrayals.
Animals, as well as the sea, are a constant in my works, not so much for the representation itself, but to denounce suffering in this historical moment.
My artistic calligraphy, whether it be in paintings or in sculpture, can be defined as a new figuration of the current “ primitivism ”.
In painting I prefer the speed of acrylic color , often superimposing it on the backgrounds of emulsified canvases with images of comics or objects related to the theme of the work itself.
The sculptures are made with recycled material and also with polychrome bronze castings . My favorite graphic reproduction technique is chalcography .
