Natalia Kutova, a self-taught artist in San Diego, California, was born and raised in Ukraine and moved to the USA in 2006 as a Fulbright scholar. Natalia is a person with many interests. She earned her B.A. in Music, M.A. in Linguistics, and Ph.D. in Education, wrote several books, and participated in numerous conferences worldwide. But she had never painted. Natalia's journey into the realm of art began in 2017 during her visit to Sausalito, a charming town just across the widely renowned Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The artworks in impasto technique displayed in a local art salon caught Natalia's eye. It was a lightning bolt moment - Natalia knew she wanted to paint like that. A spark was ignited, which turned into a passion so strong that she willingly departed her prospering teaching career to fully immerse herself in painting. Now, Natalia Kutova works in her studio in San Diego, CA as a full-time artist. She believes that her experience in painting is an inspirational message which she wants to share with the world - it's never too late, no matter the age, to begin a new journey towards success and to fulfill your dreams.
Painting for Natalia is just another way of expressing different ideas and emotions. Utilizing a palette knife and acrylic paint, she relentlessly explores the bounds of the impasto technique, seeking to infuse her paintings with a tactile three-dimensional effect to achieve more visual intensity in conveying certain meaning. The main subject of her painting is flowers and trees, which are extrapolated from the reality and reconceptualized in her painting to the level of visual metaphors, expressing a wide variety of ideas, thoughts, and feelings. Instead of striving for exact representation, she tries to imbue these natural forms with profound meaning, allowing for a diverse array of interpretations. Marked by a technique that entails the creation of heavily textured and almost sculptural masterpieces, her art possesses an unmistakable uniqueness. It is in this fusion of technique, subject matter, and intention that she endeavors to evoke a powerful and lasting impact upon all who encounter her artistic creations.
