Exhibition of poems and paintings - Meena Chopra - South Asian Observer - Toronto December 2005

STAFF REPORTER TORONTO

It is a unique blend of poetry
and paintings exhibited at
Mississauga’s Central Library,
second floor. Held under the
theme “Residual Dreams”, the
exhibition presents works of
Indo-Canadian artist Meena
Chopra, and it is on till Dec 30.

Fearing that her inner-creativity
wouldn’t shine through
in just poems or paintings,
Chopra decided to put up a
show that would allow her to
express herself through words
and visuals together. Framed
poems are significantly placed
next to the paintings.Sometimes a poem relate to its
respective painting while at
other times, the placement is
done at random.
Chopra is also the co-founder
of Cross Currents Indo-Canadian
International Arts. In 1996,
Chopra’s collection of poems
were published in a book titled
Ignited Lines, which was
released in London. She received
honorable mention in the
Mississauga Library System’s
2003 Poetry Writing Contest for
her piece ‘Stillness Moves’.
