Art Basel 2030: Installation "Fast fish" (2023) 绘画 由 Maria Petroff

"In the new world, it is not the big fish which eats the small fish, it's the fast fish which eats the slow fish." said the Chairman of WEF Klaus Schwab. Interesting fact is that in nature, fast fish are the most vicious predators.

The artwork was exhibited at the Qatar International Art Festival 2023 during EXPO Qatar 2023. The theme of the Festival was Environment and Sustainability. "Art Basel 2030: Installation "Fast fish" was shown together with "Art Basel 2020" as a diptych.
With these two paintings the artist wanted to draw attention to the big companies' primary duty to preserve and protect the environment. Big companies often neglect their responsibilities putting profits above the environment and people’s well-being. However, the end consumers are taking all the blame. Ordinary people, are often accused of consuming too much. However, it's the big companies who practice aggressive marketing to inspire us to consume more and more products. Products that we usually don’t even need, or products that are not durable, or low quality.
By 2030 we are supposed to be living in a different economic system, called inclusive capitalism - capitalism that works for everyone equally. However, the officials and the ideologists of the inclusive capitalism say that in the end only fast fish will survive. Meaning that those who are adapting fast in the new economic system. The question is "How is it different from the "traditional" capitalism?"
