The theme of this image is the Dutch expression "Aan de kaak worden gesteld" (To be denounced). The photograph was taken in the Netherlands, Culemborg a small town in the province of Gelderland.
What we see is the local town hall build between 1534 and 1539. On the right side of the image we see "de kaak", used (16th century) to publicly denounce people who committed a crime or felony, according to the local law.
