Sep 7, 2007 PRESS RELEASE: VALENTINA VUKOVIC RECEIVES SPECIAL RECOGNITION
Artist VALENTINA VUKOVIC of VALJEVO, SERBIA has received three Special Recognition Merit Awards for artwork in the "9th Annual Photographic Processes Juried Online International Art Exhibition" hosted by
.
This international exhibition received nearly 300 entries from around the world and 44 artists were selected by the juror Larry Bradshaw, Professor of Art at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, U. S. A.
Professor Bradshaw states this about this specially recognized work:
"Valentina Vukovic of Valjevo, Serbia has an eye for the flair in subject matter especially in her work "Dominion Theatre London" showing the orange and black and gray in the scene. And in her black and white
with red interventions piece "Kiss" she captures the rather bizarre hair and fashion of a young girl and boy kissing on the street. Another fine work "London Goes On" is her photo of the artist herself with a camera as seen through a marked window as an older man goes by. These are marvelous and engaging works."
The exhibition will be on display online through August at and continue for 12 months, closing August 31, 2008.
Further information about the artist:
"I am 20 years old photographer from Serbia. I attach five photographies of the city of London created in July 2007 for the University of Westminster, School of Media, Arts and Design
Short explanation of the process used
London, as an enormous multicultural city has certain vibrations of its own. Different lifestyles of all the races create one special lifestyle that could be experienced in London only. In my personal opinion,
although it is good to have all things perfectly structured and proportioned to tiny bits and pieces, structure is not so important as the final effect that photos get when presented together in series, each being so different and having its own character, while still being connected to the other ones.
All photos of the series are black and white with a glimpse of red colour, which gives a special effect. Those are my three favourite colours, and I thought they would be perfect for presenting London the way that I would like to. Black and white are chosen to show at their best all the sharp lines, shadows, grey and dull moments of a rainy day (as it usually is in London), or for expressing great contrast without having to adjust brightness, when the sun is shining. Black and white, because it's so special, so "old school" looking and creates such a beautiful effect. And in the end, those red moments are given to lighten things up, to point out at few details, and add a bit of love and passion to a picture as a whole.
In conclusion, this project consists of all the simple things that could possibly not be seen anywhere out of London, which makes them great representatives of the city of London, seen through the eye of photographer, myself, and searching for and seeing myself in it. "
