Laine Garrido

By origin I'm estonian but was born and raised in Sweden. My parents and brother came to Sweden as WWII refugees from Estonia escaping the war and the soviet invasion. I graduated at the University of Stockholm in Finances and Sociology and having finished my academic studies I began to develop more seriously my passion for art. A career in advertising and illustration began at Foote, Cone & Belding in Stockholm where I worked during five years, until 1981 when I moved to Ecuador with my ecuadorian husband and then four year old son. During my first three years in Quito I worked for a TV channel making ads and later working on free-lance basis for different creative agencies as illustrator especialized in air-brushing technique. Well, I never had time to study art so I'm completely self-taught. Living in Ecuador surrounded by snowy mountains, palmtrees and a colorful Andean folklore inspires me to put everything on canvas. In the beginning I worked only in oil, but some ten years ago I discovered the acrylic painting and I think that by now I dominate it totally.
