The Portraits which you see are painted by John Enright. Most of these were created using photoreference for details and completed with oils on canvas. Realism in Portraiture is of utmost concern, so the Artist first schedules a photographic session with his models to insure that the essence of the person is first captured on film. Then the Artist selects the best of all the photos and works up a final composition which the client reviews and approves to be painted. 95% of all Professional Portrait Artists work in this manner today. During the course of the portrait, the artist often requests the model sit for a few hours as he matches skin tone and nuance of the face. Photography cannot capture everything, so this is a valuable time to understand the person and feel their spirit. Portraiture is one of the most demanding and challenging of subjects to paint, and John honors the fine tradition of those artists who have come before him.
The figurative paintings are expressed in the Romantic tradition of the Pre Raffaelites, Waterhouse, Bougeaureau, Jean Leon Gerome, Klimt, Carravaggio and others. Flowing drapery and elegant shrouds of fabric wrap around poses that are soothing to the eye. Soft lighting and golden hues are embued within the glazes and strokes of the artist.
