John Alogi, a contemporary Nigerian artist, discovered his passion for art at a tender age, influenced by his sculptor grandfather and inspired by his artist uncle. His journey into the world of art began with drawing characters from comic books and posters, nurturing his innate artistic talent.
Upon completing his secondary education, Alogi pursued a more formal path in art. In 2012, he embarked on an apprenticeship program at Talents Art Kingdom under the guidance of his first master, Oyebola Olayinka Jacob OJ. Seeking to refine his skills, he enrolled in a National Diploma program in 2014 and later pursued a Higher Diploma program in 2018, specializing in painting at the prestigious Yaba College of Technology in Lagos.
Driven by a relentless pursuit of growth, Alogi sought further enrichment through an internship at Olokun Studio under the mentorship of Mr. Saheed Adelakun.
Alogi's art serves as a reflection of his memories, inner emotions, history, and personal experiences. Employing a unique "Puzzle technique," he translates these aspects onto canvas, infusing his works with humor and depth. His paintings have been featured in numerous group exhibitions across Nigeria, notably including "Life in My City" in 2018 and the NEXT OF KIN series in Lagos in 2019. In 2023, he achieved recognition by winning the USA ArtCloud competition.
Alogi's artistic journey continues to evolve as he draws inspiration from his motivations, explores innovative techniques, and channels his boundless creativity into captivating works of art. He intricately weaves his puzzle designs, breaking lines into fragmented forms to create movement, revealing the unique differences in identity.
