Jacques Pons
Jacques Pons , The power of color
Jacques Pons was born in Avignon in 1936, but he spent all his childhood in Ardèche.
It was at the Allard Academy in Marseille that he completed four years of plastic art studies and learned the basics of drawing and the science of color. He will obtain several prizes including that of decoration, the first Pébéo-Lefranc prize, the second for a poster project and for a work in Indian ink.
In 1958, he returned to Ardèche where he painted and exhibited in local galleries.
1959 is the year he starts working in a public works company without ceasing to paint. He will stay there for eight years.
Then, he left for Corsica in 1966, and discovered there a landscape full of light that would definitively mark his palette with rich and violent tones.
He left the island of beauty in 1968. His childhood friend, the painter Jean-Paul Cleren then invited him to come to Saint-Tropez to create a framing workshop there. This new job allowed him to meet famous painters such as Bernard Buffet, Antoni Clavé, Léonor Fini, Pierre-Yves Trémois and no less famous writers: Françoise Sagan, André Roussin and Dominique Lapierre; the latter encouraged him to continue his pictorial work.
Alongside the framing workshop, his wife opened a gallery in 1971 where she exhibited internationally renowned painters and local artists.
It is from this date that collectors are interested and buy his paintings. He participated in group exhibitions and met Lucien Neuquelman who appreciated his approach and encouraged him.
During all these years he combines his pictorial and artisanal activities but painting is his passion and in 1985 he decides to devote himself entirely to it by retiring to Aveyron where he paints for various Parisian merchants and auctioneers.
The paintings of Jacques Pons are characterized by light and heat, that of the South of course that he has always loved. The colors collide and harmonize at the same time but always find their balance. His gifts as a colorist make him a direct descendant of those artists who were called "fauves" at the beginning of the twentieth century.
Many of his works are distributed in private collections in the USA, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Holland...

In 1985 he retires in Aveyron where he goes on painting for picture dealers and auctioneers.
His paintings reflect the light and the heat of south of France he has ever cherished:his mighty colours are always well balanced in a certain way deriving from the « Fauve » artists of the beginning of the twentieth century.
Most of paintings belong to private collectionnists in USA, Germany, Belgium, Switzerland, Holland….
