Irjan Moussin
Irjan Moussin is a contemporary artist from Kazakhstan based in Belgium. He embarked on his artistic journey after completing the Art academy in 1995. In a pivotal decision, he packed his possessions into a knapsack and set forth for the culturally rich city of Saint Petersburg, a place revered by numerous generations of renowned poets.
The Repin's art academy, nestled on the picturesque banks of the river Neva, played a profound role in shaping Moussin's artistic perspective. Renowned for its unwavering commitment to the classic school of realism, the academy left an indelible mark on his education and worldview.

Technique
I use oil-based paint that is often quite fluid - my painting is like a watercolour technique - using oils. Sometimes I work with thicker paint, that emphasises the expression of a stroke. For me, the picture should 'live'.
The piece is completed when it conveys something I intended and want, this could occur even in the early stages of working. To make a good picture, for me, is to know when to stop.

Biography:
Is there anything unique in this world?
Can you find what you are looking for, dream of and long for in this world?
Have you also noticed how even the most uncomplicated and fleeting feelings, emotions or impressions can influence our mood, and how they can change our lives in just one instant without asking our permission?
Many of the things around us are unique;
Wherever there is sorrow, there will be room for joy, and pleasure will be replaced by grief.
I love to move around, I love life and see the sun rise, and I also love the sound of murmuring rivers. And even the occasional noise of frogs croaking at night can lighten up my life and make it more universal.
We try to surround ourselves with pleasant emotions and impressions, but all too often they fade quickly and become intangible, preventing us from enjoying even half the taste.
However, on canvas they surprisingly live on forever. And I think that is great!
I was born in Kazakhstan; a country that is not only rich in raw materials, but that can also pride itself on its magnificent scenery, national customs, culture and arts.
It is no coincidence to me that very often my artwork mixes European with Kazakh culture, as geographically speaking 14 % of my homeland is situated in Europe.
In the city where I have spent my childhood, the high peaks of the Zailijskij Alataj mountains that were covered in snow, even in summer, have always created a special atmosphere
Alma-Ata, that’s the place where I started making drawings at the age of three; and not just drawings on paper, on asphalt and on the wall, but also on the tram of course! Just like that, on the tram’s windows!
From then on the art of painting has dominated my life!
I will not tell you the full story of my life, from being a baby to the first years in the art academy (I will leave this to the historians).
After having completed the art academy in 1995 I packed my (small) possessions in a knapsack, said farewell to my friends and left for a place praised by many generations of famous poets: the city of Saint Petersburg.
Repin’s art academy, situated on the banks of the river Neva, is world famous for its unsurpassed devotion to the classic school of realism and has undoubtedly influenced my education and my perception of the world around me.
And today I would like to express again my feelings of gratitude for my teachers. My special thanks also go to the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan for helping me financing my studies in the fraternal Russian Federation.
At the start of the millennium my mind of an inexhaustible nomad and a free roamer forced me to saddle the mountain eagle and to fly away, to Brussels.
The Flemish and Dutch artists’ paintings called, and they have been an integral part of my life from a very young age.
In 2005 I staged my first personal exhibition in the city of Mechelen, in the gallery of Ann Jorissen.
But in 2006 the addictive smell of freedom and the insatiable urge to bury myself in the history of the Flemish art of painting drove me to Antwerp’s art academy, and, in 2007, to “Art-Event”, the city of Antwerp’s Exhibition of Expressive Art.
I thank God for our ability to fill the world with emotions, tenderness and imagination!
Because these are the actual feelings that accompany me everywhere, no matter where I am, including today, and no matter what part of the world my nomad Kazakh ancestors’ spirited mind may take me to.
I would like to wish you a pleasant journey through my virtual gallery and I do hope that you will find extreme pleasure in looking at my paintings!
May a new and warm wind bring us new ideas and good humour, and may creativity and art inspire us to achieve success in everything we do!
We will blow life in anything that surrounds us!
We can see and we can feel!
And that is great news!
