Guy Blackburn
Guy Blackburn, born in Quebec in 1956, began his artistic practice in the early 1980s, participating in numerous exhibitions and contemporary art events both in Quebec, Canada, and internationally (France, Germany, Poland, Chile, Cuba). Since 1990, his multidisciplinary approach has garnered widespread attention, sustained media coverage, and significant analysis. Notable projects include Blindness, Tribute to Anna, Forbidden Space, Begging for Affection, and a series of four installations at the Cold War Museum in Carps, Ontario. He has also presented Sans Silence and Extrait d'ambiguité at the Musée de Rimouski, the Galerie Séquence in Chicoutimi, and the National Biennale of Contemporary Sculpture in Trois-Rivières. His latest project, Touche, is a major work produced in collaboration with the National Center for Research and Dissemination in Contemporary Digital Arts SAGAMIE, based in Alma.
Between 1992 and 2015, Blackburn created the TOC corpus, a series of 242 paintings centered around the theme of obsessive collection. These works are permanently displayed across the four floors of the Hôtel Chicoutimi. While his practice is diverse, installation and painting remain central to his artistic vision.

D’une esthétique empruntée à la biologie, ces œuvres traitent de la migration et de la multiplication des cellules en laboratoire, métaphore froide et analytique de la migration dramatique des populations dans le monde.
