This oil painting, attributed to the Spanish artist Francisco González Romero, presents a dense still life composition featuring plates, fruits, bottles and jugs that dissolve into an almost abstract vision. Francisco González Romero (b. Málaga, 1923) is a Spanish painter with a career spanning over seventy years. He studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Málaga and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando in Madrid. His work evolved from academic realism to a gestural and symbolic abstraction influenced by symbolism, cubism and surrealism.
Besides painting, González Romero also worked in interior design and art education. In 2023, he was honored by the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Telmo for his centennial contribution to Spanish art. His painting is marked by a strong material presence, intense textures and expressive force, which has influenced several generations of Andalusian artists.
