Why are my artwork's dimensions not matching my image file? (wrong ratio format)
Common Mistakes:
- Have you measured your work well?
- Is your image file perfectly centered and cropped?
- Did you crop your photo too much?
The main photo must show ONLY the artwork (no background or decors)
It must be perfectly centered and cropped. Its dimensions (height/width) must match the dimensions (height/width) of the real artwork.
It must be perfectly centered and cropped. Its dimensions (height/width) must match the dimensions (height/width) of the real artwork.
The artwork and image file must have the same shape and format
The ratio of the dimensions of the real artwork must match the ratio of the image file's height by the image file's width. The height / width in cm must match the height / width in pixels.
Example 1: Square
You load work of 100cm x 100cm (perfect square) The photo of the work must also be a perfect square, regardless of its dimensions in pixels (1000x1000 pixels, 2000 x 2000 pixels or 5000 x 5000 pixels etc ...).
Example 2: Portrait
You load a work of height 200cm x width 100cm (ratio format 100/200 = 0,5) The photo of the work must have the same ratio of 0.5: its height in pixels must be twice its width in pixels (for example 2000x1000 pixels, 4000 x 2000 pixels or 10 000 x 5000 pixels etc ...).
Example 3: Landscape
You load a work of height 100cm x width 200cm (ratio format 200/100 = 2) The photo of the work must have the same ratio of 2: its width in pixels must be twice its height in pixels (for example 1,000x2,000 pixels, 2,000 x 4,000 pixels or 5,000 x 10,000 pixels etc. ...).
What does it mean to have an incorrect ratio format?
This means that the dimensions in centimetres that you have indicated are not correct, or that the photo of the image is not good and does not exactly show the work:
- the picture shows the work with a frame
- the picture was too cropped
- the photo that shows the work is not perfectly straight
- the picture shows the work on a wall, or in a decor
Example of error:
You specify square dimensions for a work (100cmx100xm for example), but the image you have loaded is 2000 pixels high x 1800 pixels wide: The picture is NOT a SQUARE, it does not correspond to the artwork!
How to solve the problem?
- Try to crop the image from your account with the crop tool, to let appear only the work itself, not framed and perfectly cut off (then add the framed work as additional view if necessary)
- If you can not find the original ratio format because the photo is too bad or distorted, take a new photo of the work perfectly centered on the front face, the 4 sides and corners must be visible. You will be able to perfectly crop the picture on your ArtMajeur account.
