Fotografiska is expanding its empire of photographic museums, with plans to add three more locations by 2023. On Friday, the private museum announced plans to establish outposts in Berlin, Miami, and Shanghai within the next couple of years. The museums in Berlin and Shanghai are scheduled to open in the third quarter of 2022, while the one in Miami is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2023.

The Berlin museum, at 58,000 square feet, is projected to be the largest of the three. Herzog & de Meuron, the company responsible for the recently built M+ museum, has been commissioned to expand the rooftop of the projected museum's renovated building, a former department store, while Studio Aisslinger will redesign the inside.

The Miami location, housed in a one-story warehouse, will likewise be highly anticipated, considering its closeness to art world hotspots such as the Rubell Collection and Superblue. Mera Rubell, a collector, described the museum as a "tremendous triumph for Miami" in a statement. Additionally, the Shanghai museum will be housed in a warehouse.
Fotografiska began operations in 2010 in Stockholm and expanded to New York and Tallinn in 2019. It has established a reputation for high-caliber exhibitions, most recently in New York with shows devoted to Andy Warhol and Ruth Orkin.
According to Josh Wyatt, CEO of Fotografiska, "it is an incredible pleasure to name these great landmarks our homes, and we are humbled by the chance to recreate such significant structures." We have taken a deliberate approach to worldwide development, carefully selecting these locations for their vibrant cultural scenes, enthusiasm for photography, and forward-thinking perspectives on the future of immersive art experiences. We're ecstatic to meet our new neighbors and visitors."
