The cube weighs over 400 pounds and is entirely made of 24-karat gold. The cube, which was cast in Switzerland, required a special kiln to contain its contents. The sculpture is currently on display at a Wall Street private dinner. Castello will also release an ancillary NFT, the Castello Coin, on February 21.

By definition, conceptual art takes on a variety of forms. Consider Maurizio Cattelan's duck-taped banana, formerly titled Comedian (2019), or a new gold cube that appeared today in the heart of New York's Central Park. The cube weighs over 400 pounds and is entirely made of 24-karat gold. It is valued at a whopping $11.7 million USD.

Niclas Castello, a German artist, is the project's creator. He told  that he wanted to "create something that transcends our world—something intangible." Cattelan, coincidentally, had already experimented with a similar sculpture in New York — a gold toilet — at the Guggenheim in 2016, making Castello's work interesting but not entirely novel.

However, Castello will also release an ancillary NFT, the Castello Coin, on February 21. The cube, which was cast in Switzerland, required a special kiln to contain its contents and maintain the extreme temperatures required for the melting process. The sculpture is currently on display at a Wall Street private dinner.
