In 2026, the Fondation Giacometti wants to open a museum in Paris that is all about the artist and sculptor Alberto Giacometti. The museum will be in the old Invalides train station and the basement of the esplanade. It will have a school and a permanent collection of several hundred works by the artist. Aside from Giacometti's famous bronze sculptures, the museum will also have drawings, paintings, and decorative items, "most of which are not currently available to the public," Catherine Grenier, director of the Giacometti Foundation, told Agence France Presse. She also said that there will be "exhibitions of modern and contemporary art that has something to do with Giacometti."

The Invalides train station was built for the Paris Exposition in 1900, and the city is currently fixing it up. In the train station and its underground extensions, the new museum and school will take up 64,600 square feet of space. Giacometti was born in Switzerland in 1901. In 1922, he moved to Paris and became known as one of the best Surrealist sculptors there. A reconstruction of the artist's studio, which is currently at the Giacometti Institute in Paris, will be moved to the museum.
