Aleksandr Shevelev
Alexander Viktorovich Shevelev was born in 1964 in the village of Sherekhovichi, Lyubytinsky district, Novgorod region. The future artist spent his childhood and youth in the Urals – in Sverdlovsk and Nizhny Tagil.
In 1980, he entered the first year of the Ural School of Applied Arts. After completing the first year, due to his parents moving to the city of Rybinsk, he transferred to the second year of the Yaroslavl Art School and successfully completed it in 1984.
In 1986, he entered the painting department of the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture named after I.E. Repin.
In 1988, after finishing his second year, he was assigned to a workshop under the guidance of the People's Artist of the USSR. Moiseenko E. E. and People's Artist of the RSFSR. Fomina P.T. After four years of study in a personal creative workshop in 1992, the work “In Memory of Mologa.” defended his diploma as an artist-painter.
Since 1992, the artist has lived and worked in the city of Rybinsk.
In 1996 he became a member of the Union of Artists of Russia. In the early and mid-90s, he participated in regional and republican exhibitions. And also a regular participant in city exhibitions.
In 1996, a personal exhibition of Alexander Shevelev took place in the public cultural center of the city of Rybinsk.
The work of the artist Alexander Viktorovich Shevelev is a continuation of the realistic traditions in Russian painting. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the artist focuses his work on the traditions and best achievements of the European and Russian schools of painting.
Based on the traditions of the realistic school, the author does not strive to blindly copy nature, but reinterprets it creatively. It is important for the artist to preserve the recognition and documentation of what is depicted in the picture. In each of his works, the artist sets himself the goal of conveying not only an external resemblance to nature, but also to create an image that would most fully reveal the essence of the chosen motif. It is no coincidence that the artist often returns to previously painted landscapes or corners of the Volga city of Rybinsk, in which he sees much that has not yet been revealed in his previous works.
The city landscape occupies a special place in his creativity. The artist strives to convey that, largely gone forever, atmosphere of the provincial city of Rybinsk, when it was one of the most beautiful cities on the Volga.
The city of Rybinsk, for the artist, is inseparable from its historical component, which, despite significant losses during the previous century, lives in the old architectural center and the Volga banks on which it is located. Its thoughtful location and development, even in its current state, leaves a majestic impression and gives an idea of what this city looked like at the turn of the 19th-20th centuries in its heyday.
