John Dotson
ABOUT ME!! I'M A GREAT READ!!!
My name is john Dotson, I was born in the hills of Tennessee back in 1953.
I've been studying at since I was three; when I could hold a pencil I was drawing; ofter disappointed as a child I could not do as well as painters and illustrators of the time.
Growing up my schools had no real art classes, and I never had any formal training until 1990 or so, a mail order class in Minnesota. It really was a good school. Contributing teachers included successful illustrators such a Jack Kirby and Frank Frazetta, and more commercial names I recognized from my decades of going through magazines such as look, Life, New Yorker, Playboy (yes, I also looked at illustrations and who did them(!) and read the articles that interested me in Playboy!!). At one time Jeffery Jones and Frank Frazetta did lots of Illustrations in Playboy; also Boyscout, and the old Creepy- Erie type zines!!
I'm also a big fan of van Gough, “Starry Nights” one of my favorites.
One of the down points of being in Tennessee in the mountains was there was no way to get out other than to depend on mail. It never occurred to me to even try to send works to these or other magazines. I was content with selling my works at flea markets, and one art guild that let me show at their once a year shows.
Now I'm seeing if after all thee years something could be done still with the skills I have nowadays.
The last decade or so I've been experimenting in pastels & watercolor with some success. I'm very happy with this, perhaps I can dl some of them here, see what you think.
Supposedly someone tried to buy oe of my works. Dunno who; I have undergone some health/family changes that are rather radical; I forgot I even had this site; figured they'd have deleted it by now anyway.
So check the new info on here, maybe the works listed are still around; or maybe I can redo some of them for ya. Give me a call on one of my phone numbers, and we'll discuss the possibilities.
