Poetic Latitude is a painting made in August 2021, during a stay in the historic village of Rhuilles. It is the first large-scale partial self-portrait done by the artist. In the center of the work, the legs depicted from the knee down of Mikaya Petros, seem to stop poised on a wooden step. These are our actions that do not find their immediate realization, or need a rethink to remain, in some cases, in the state of pure intentions. The painting inspired by a work by Picasso sees in the right foot, slightly open outwards, the true protagonist of the painting, the symbol of our will that sometimes takes unusual directions. The poetic latitude of the title plays precisely on this concept in which our choices, sometimes reckless because expressed on unexpected paths, can be so perfect almost poetic precisely. On the right a long spider's web, with a crowned spider in the center and another dangling from a thread, represents the network of our existence, the emotional sphere, through the two spiders also conjugal. In the polychromatic abstract background, some objects present in the artist's mountain cabin, a wooden egg on its support, a hanger, a wrought iron hook, a tin box of Brun cookies, produced in Strasbourg, old work tools and a knob with a Macedonian star, in honor of the artist's Rhaetian origins. A cockerel seems to flutter happily in the work, representing the freedom that every artist has to express himself through his art, like a cockerel fluttering joyfully in his henhouse.

Mikaya Petros was born in Milan, Italy, class of 1964, daughter of the surrealist painter Petros. She trained in her father's atelier where she made four- handed photo collages, pictorial and material works. Her encounter in the 1970s with Andy Warhol was incisive. It was in her maternal uncle's production, post-production and computer graphics house that the artist worked from a young age creating digital and video contributions. "Painting for me is like singing in the shower on a sunny day," she says. Through digital experimentation, her art investigates the Surrealist matrix, giving rise to conceptual and formal research with a breath that deepens the boundary between Reality, Time and Symbolism. The subjects of her works, realized through a digital photographic language, live in a contemporary dreamlike dimension. In her creative process Virtual Reality and Temporal Spaces are investigated, decomposed and reassembled in a neo-contemporary vision. This is the mirror and parallel reflection of a world yet to be deciphered. Her works have been exhibited at the Expo Fiera in Milan, the Biennale BID in Trieste 2021, the Michelangelo Expo Prize in Rome, Arte Laguna World at the Arsenale, the Dante Alighieri Palazzo Borghese Prize in Florence, the Dante Academy in London 2021, the Enchanted Garden Exhibition in Belgium, the Luxemburg Prize, the Tower House in the UK, at XI Esposición Internacional in Valencia in Spain, at 5th Pasa Art Festival in Korea, at Osten Biennale in Macedonia, at Big Screen Plaza and Found Work of Art in NYC in USA , at Art Facts and International Painting Biennale in Hamburg 2022.
