Juan Aponte was born in Peru in 1959. During his childhood, he was introduced to the world of art by his uncle, who used a butter spatula to paint in oils. This experience instilled in him a love for the use of color and materials in art, which would shape his artistic expression for years to come.
Later, Juan enrolled in the School of Fine Arts, where he received a traditional education. He graduated with honors and was invited to stay on as a professor of painting and composition, a role he held for ten years.
In 2003, he moved to the United States to explore the work of the American abstract expressionists, whom he had long admired. Over time, he gradually transitioned from figurative art to gesturally abstract painting, which he considers his true calling.
