Raf Urban is a contemporary French artist. Born in 1971, this self-taught artist grew up in the suburbs of Paris, where his artistic journey began to take shape. Immersed in the urban culture of the 80s, he found himself drawn to the vibrant street atmosphere and discovered the burgeoning graffiti and hip-hop movement that was unfolding in the neighborhoods of the capital city. Spending countless hours exploring and seeking inspiration, he became captivated by the art form.
It was the stencil technique that particularly caught his attention, captivating him with its effectiveness, versatility, and the combination of militancy and poetry it offered. This artistic tool swiftly became his preferred mode of expression, which he has since embraced wholeheartedly, adorning walls with his creations.
As the instigator and advocate of the Diversity Is Hope movement, he utilizes his stencils to bring forth colorful faces that convey a powerful message of diversity, hope, and tolerance to as wide an audience as possible. Furthermore, his artworks serve as a catalyst for introspection, urging us to contemplate our capacity to embrace others and coexist harmoniously.
