Né en 1970, Bernard Saint-Maxent débute la sculpture en autodidacte, dans les années 90. Une façon pour lui d’évacuer les pressions engendrées par son travail au sein de la restauration rapide. Cette formation en solitaire lui permet de créer, sans se soucier des règles établies. Il cherche à donner de la vie et du mouvement à ses créations, toujours avec humour, une façon d’attirer le regard avant de déclencher une réflexion. Son travail actuel tourne autour des farces d’un personnage longiligne omniprésent avec une joie de vivre.
Son inspiration vient des scènes burlesques de Buster Keaton et Charlie Chaplin, de l’actualité à la publicité, des contradictions de la vie moderne et de ses propres délires. Même si les sujets qu’il aborde ne font pas toujours sourire, ils sont néanmoins traités avec humour et joie de vivre. Chaque sculpture est différente et « unique » car il n’y a pas de moulage. Ils sont créés avec une structure métallique autour de laquelle il modèle avec de la résine puis applique un vernis.
