The artwork "Take a Leap" or "Make the Jump" beautifully expresses a world awakening from the shadows of COVID-19. With its spirit of resurgence, it is a compelling expression of a courageous stride forward after the stagnation caused by the pandemic. We reclaim our momentum with a renewed sense of purpose and fresh confidence.
A boy takes leaps from the branch of a tree perched on a cliff. This act of boldness is a metaphor for the uncertainty that shrouds our futures, with the universal sentiment of stepping into the unknown. The boy's leap becomes a symbol of courage, embodying the resilience that propels us forward through adversity.
The stark contours of the tree and mountain cliff stand out in contrast to the ethereal pinkish light of the sky. This reflects the human experience: the journey from darkness to illumination, from uncertainty to hope. Collectively, humanity feels the desire for something more profound than the shadows that have persisted for too long.
You are invited to contemplate your own journey of renewal and growth. The Leap takes the form of a visual motto, urging you to embrace your future with confidence and determination.

As an artist working across multiple mediums, including oil, watercolor, acrylics, and textiles, Afke's work is rooted in exploring the emotional aspects of diversity and exclusion, abandonment and inclusion, loneliness and connection.

Through her paintings, she seeks to capture the raw emotions that arise from these themes, inviting the viewer to contemplate their own experiences and feelings. Whether working with the fluidity of watercolors or the boldness of acrylics, Afke strives to create pieces that are both striking and thought-provoking.

In her textile work, she is particularly drawn to the tactile nature of the medium and the meditative state that arises from working with fabric. She uses fabric and thread to explore the ways in which she connects with others, and the world at large. By stitching together fragments of cloth, she creates a visual representation of the interconnectedness of all things.

Her work is deeply personal, yet it is also universal. It speaks to the human experience and the emotions that we all share. Through her art, she hopes to create a space for reflection and connection, where viewers can explore their own feelings of exclusion, loneliness, and abandonment, and find comfort and understanding in the shared experiences to gain feelings of inclusion and connection.
