In DANCERS the figures are in a forceful close-up accentuated by the fact that certain parts of the body of the performers overlap towards the two-dimensional, which translates into greater proximity: I am not only in your sight, I am coming towards you. Each one of the works uses various materials: oil, tempera, metallic sheet, on mahogany wood. The arrangement of these has something of an altarpiece and this opens the space of sacred astonishment, of carnality as a spiritual movement, of the reverential gaze, of the consecration of these pictorial dancers. As we admire the paintings by Velez and his dancers, it is necessary to quote the philosopher Jean-François Lyotard, who when appreciating a painting said: it is a ball.
