Tsultrim (Chhulthim) Lama is a professional painter of thankas (Buddhist paintings) with over 30 years of experience. He is also the owner of the studio "Red Tara Thankas Production and Training Center" located in Kathmandu (Nepal).
The history of this centre dates back to 1880, when the great-grandfather of the current owner, Ankpa, who was a lama (an honoured title of Buddhist teachers corresponding to the Sanskrit term guru), was asked to paint paintings to support meditation practices. This is how the painting of thankas became a family tradition, continued from generation to generation until the present day.
The studio has recently been enlarged, allowing Tsultrim Lama to use assistants who, under his guidance, study the meaning of Buddhist symbols and train in the art of painting thankas.
His paintings go to private collectors of Buddhist art, Buddhist monasteries and temples, and are sent through us to Europe and the United States.
