Gerçeküstücülük tarzı nasıl tanımlanır?

Sürrealizm, 1924'te Fransa'da ortaya çıkan ve André Breton tarafından yazılan edebi ve sanatsal bir harekettir. "Gerçekçiliğin üstünde" veya "gerçekten daha fazlası" olarak tercüme edilebilir. Aklın ve estetik veya ahlaki kaygıların silinmesi gereken bir düşünce diktesidir. Breton'a göre gerçeküstücülük, bir özgürleşme arzusuyla meşrulaştırılır: Bilinçaltını bilinçle uzlaştırmak için özgür bırakarak, insanlık kendisini mantık ve aklın dayattığı kısıtlamalardan kurtarabilecektir. Bu nedenle sanatçılar ve yazarlar, Dada hareketinin yanı sıra Sigmund Freud'un tezlerinden ve Sembolistlerin eserlerinden, özellikle Gustave Moreau ve Odilon Redon'un eserlerinden ilham alacaklardır. Literatürde bu yaklaşım, otomatik yazma veya zarif ceset gibi ilginç deneylerde kendini gösterecektir. Ray (Siyah Beyaz, Keman d'Ingres, Hediye…). İsviçreli sanatçı Meret Oppenheim ise bu akımın boyutunu şiirle aktarmak için bu farklı araçlarla (heykel, fotoğraf, hazır yapıt) besteledi. Sürrealizmin tekrar eden temaları ve sembolleri şunlardır: beklenmedik karşılaşmalar, uyumsuz yan yanalıklar, insanlıktan çıkaran maskeler (Afrika, gaz veya endüstriyel), peygamberdevesi (kadın korkusunu somutlaştıran) ve kelime oyunları (özellikle eserin başlığı ile kompozisyonu arasında) ) ve Belçikalı René Magritte'in ünlü “Bu bir pipo değil” gibi diğer görsel kelime oyunları.
