This sculpture is a commission for a private collector. Sculpted in the nightmare days of 2020, in the midst of a pandemic, political turmoil, social unrest and global climate tragedies, creating something beautiful felt like an act of defiance and hope. She is the result of refusing to give in to depression, give up, or surrender to hopelessness. She is an expression of the belief that Truth and Beauty will prevail, and a new, better day will come. Hence her name, "Dawn".
She is carved from a pristine block of Macedonian Sivec marble, some of the most beautiful stone I have ever had the pleasure to sculpt. This piece is all about line and gives the viewer a dramatic, sinuous line from every angle. These curving lines are punctuated by small details, which draw the viewer in, so that from a distance or up very close, there is always something to enjoy.

Sherry Tipton is een hedendaagse Amerikaanse kunstenaar. Ze begon als portretkunstenaar, maar stapte daarna over op stenen beeldhouwkunst met de wens om haar tekening volledig driedimensionaal te maken.

Tipton begon in 2004 met het snijden van steen in Ghost Ranch en een paar jaar later begon ze haar stenen sculptuur tentoon te stellen in shows en galerijen in Colorado, New Mexico en New York City, en begon ook te reizen naar internationale steenhouwsymposia, waar ze werkte in Turkije en Griekenland .

Sherry Tipton werd geboren in 1960 in Lubbock, Texas. Ze woont en werkt in New Orleans, waar ze een studio heeft gevestigd en is begonnen met restauratiewerkzaamheden aan belangrijke monumenten op de historische begraafplaatsen.
