Majestic bust of a male lion finished in matt copper raku. This is a unique signed ceramic work of art which I created using a slabbing technique to start then additional clay is added to define the features. Majestic bust of a male lion finished in matt copper raku. This is a unique signed ceramic work of art which I created using a slabbing technique to start then additional clay is added to define the features. Once dry it was fired to 1000 degrees Celsius in an electric kiln. After the initial firing I applied copper oxide and re-fired it using a gas kiln where at 1000 degrees Celsius the piece is removed from the kiln and placed in a metal container with sawdust. The container is then sealed tightly to enable a reduction starving the oxygen from the flames which created the chemical reaction in the copper and results in all the different colours and an amazing finish that is totally unique.

I graduated from the University of the West of England in 1990 with a BA Hons in Ceramics. I arrived in France in 2001 and proudly took French nationality in 2018.

I create unique pieces of animal art using my love of the natural world. I’ve always had animals in my life and am a keen observer of the wildlife around me. My passion brings sculptures to life revealing their unique characters using careful observation and facial expressions. A slight incline of the head, a sparkle to the eyes makes the difference between a stiff model and an expressive magical work of art. I like connecting with my subject and bringing out the emotions for my audience to enjoy.
