This is a self portrait inspired by the song "Pienso en tu mirá" by Rosalía. This is a self portrait inspired by the song "Pienso en tu mirá" by Rosalía. This song is from her album "El Mal Querer", and this album, ever since it came out, has been very important to me, and I've been wanting to make some artwork inspired by it.

Why "Pienso en tu mirá" as a self portrait? Well, if any of you have pets, you know how important they can be to us. Most of us don't even see them as pets but more like part of our family.

When I was hooked on this album I lost my cat, he was very, very important to me, he was like my spirit animal, I feel like we understood each other without needing words. I had a very deep, special bond with him. So, while I was mourning, feeling like I was dying, wondering why and blaming myself, the lyrics of this song resonated so much with me:

When you go through the door
I think you will never come back
And if I don't hold you tight
I feel it will be my fault

It's been two years, I made my peace with it. It still hurts, of course, but I gave him the best life I could and I'd rather think of that.

The painting, the self portrait, it's not about my cat, but it's inspired by the song that, to me, has everything to do to my cat so, somehow, it's all conected.

I think about your gaze,
your gaze is a bullet pinned to the chest...

My name is Roselin Estephanía, I'm a venezuelan artist focused mostly on watercolor portraits. I often mix surrealism and a fantasy type of realism in my paintings (as one of my collectors likes to call it), most of the time inspired by music and politics. I use art to cope with both the beatiful and the saddest parts of life. I'm an optimist at heart but I live in a country with a murderous dictatorship going on.

I went to university to study fine arts, I finished my mention in drawing, although I did not graduate (both due to the hard situation in my country and the fact that I was already doing fine selling my work). At first it was hard for me to sell my original paintings because I'm attached to them so much at first, feeling them raw and personal, but the fact that there are collectos all over the world buying them makes me feel like I get my message across, and that what I'm trying to communicate is appreciate it. Thank you so much for supporting my art.
