René Basse's works are divided into two lines. On the one hand, there are the abstract works, some of which are very minimalist. Basse does not commit himself to any style here. Tachisme and Action Painting are synonymous with Concrete Works. The color is never a means to an end here, but is deliberately in the foreground.
The small-format "attempts", on the other hand, become more representational. Showing drawings and portraits on mostly pink backgrounds, some playful, some with explicit political statements, and inevitably raise the question of what we associate with certain colours. In this respect, the color design can also be seen as the connecting element of both lines.
He is also an enthusiastic photographer.
René Basse rejects an elitist understanding of art; he calls himself an Artiste Brut.
