Mystifrican is a French self-taught digital artist, born in 1989 in Guadeloupe .
Established in Lyon, he combines drawing and photo manipulation, focusing on the iconographic representation of African and Afro-descendant deities. Through his work, he wishes to "participate in the rebirth of the spirituality of black people who were abandoned in favor of Catholicism during the slave trade and colonization."
Attracted for a long time by drawing, one of his passions, MYSTIFRICAN indulges in it during his spare time, then it was in 2012 that he trained as an art framer. During the following three years as an apprentice framer, his creativity and his understanding of art broadened through contact with the various works of professional artists he framed. He then tried various techniques and mediums. Over time and his experiments, he will choose the digital medium as his favorite medium in 2019.
By taking an interest in the spirituality of his ancestors, voodoo precisely, MYSTIFRICAN will become aware of both its richness and its artistic under-representation. Defeated prejudice and negative stereotypes conveyed by films and general culture, he decided to place voodoo at the center of his artistic expression and thereby enrich his iconography.
MYSTIFRICAN is a nickname from the words Mystic and African which for the artist sums up what his inspiration is today.
