When watching “The Last Unicorn” as a child I bawled my eyes out at the end when the Red Bull, a formidable creature who had a task to capture all unicorns on earth and imprison them in the sea forever, found out that the last one was turned into a human, Lady Amalthea, to escape his imprisonment. So she had to turn into the Unicorn again to fight back and save other unicorns, but she didn’t want to! She wanted to remain a woman and marry Prince Lír, whom she fell in love with, which unicorns can’t do. She, a unicorn, a perfect creature, didn’t want to turn to her original self and save her own kin? This was the real tragedy to me, and not the tragedy of a choice she had to make. I even felt a bit relieved when the bull killed Prince Lír and got her angry… Now, this is a children’s cartoon, so everything ended well: the Unicorn has won, saved other unicorns and revived the prince. And she remained a unicorn to my childish happiness. But the whole point of this confession is that horses have always been somewhat special to me. Their beauty, spirit, elegance and motion pattern seemed almost like a biomechanical miracle. I like their shape and feel, I like interacting with them. Not only riding – just hanging out. It’s funny how such huge beasts can be as fragile as a flower sometimes. So what if a horse could be a flower? Thinking about it gave birth to this piece.

The drawing is 42 * 29.7 cm H/W.

I used water-based markers to create a smooth texture.

Technisch Tekening

Tekenen is een techniek van visuele weergave op een vlakke ondergrond. De term 'tekenen' duidt zowel de actie van tekenen, het resulterende grafische werk als de vorm van een object aan. Het is ook een weergave op een oppervlak van de vorm (en mogelijk de licht- en schaduwwaarden) van een object of figuur, in plaats van hun kleur. Er is een groot aantal tekentechnieken: "Lineair tekenen" geeft objecten weer aan de hand van hun contouren, randen en enkele karakteristieke lijnen; buiten deze grens ontwikkelt de tekening zich door het volume weer te geven met schaduwen, vaak door arcering, kleuren in te nemen en, zonder duidelijke overgang, het schilderij aan te sluiten.

An aspiring artist from the heart of Siberia doomed to warm up all my joints every 40-60 minutes due to a genetic condition. A socially awkward extroverted introvert, sexually attracted to music.

I've been drawing and painting for as long as I remember. Mainly horses, dinosaurs and other fantastic beats I imagined. I enjoyed coming up with a backstory for every creature I created: like, where it lived, or how it behaved, what happened to it, or if it had any friends or family. Oftentimes, I wrote those stories by hand on the back of the drawings.

In my teens, when I finally had an Internet access, I came across a manga & anime forum where contemporary artists tried this art style for the first time. I got mesmerised and spent hours looking at their artworks, they looked so fresh, nothing like I've seen before. Then I got into watching anime. At that time, it wasn't as popular and there were no online streaming services, so I had to put some effort to find a series to watch. Surprisingly enough, I didn't want to copy this style, I just liked certain elements to it and the sense freedom of expression. Its creativity blew my mind and influenced me a lot. It was then and there that I met my first artistic love -- a contemporary artist by the pen-name Nonhuman. And it struck me for the first time: you don't have to be dead and part of history to be an artist. I realised I could very well become an artist myself.

Although a self-taught artist, I enjoy attending courses, workshops and lessons here and there and will continue doing so to ensure further quality growth. I am open to experimenting, collaborations and willing to try different styles.
