Nacido en Barcelona en el año 1950, es formado como artista en la Escola d'Arts i Oficis La Llotja. Con un marcado temperamento artístico y una gran curiosidad intelectual, estudia también Escenografía en el Institut del Teatre. Como muchos jóvenes de su generación, las inquietudes sociales y políticas de los años 70 y 80 del siglo XX, marcan su trabajo creativo con una pintura socialmente comprometida con los ideales políticos de aquel momento.
Artista con un universo habitado por objetos en desuso, como maderas viejas, hierros oxidados y multitud de guijarros con los que construye curiosos artefactos dotados de una gran simbología. Aunque sus inicios artísticos se sitúan en la pintura, pronto la abandona, a causa de una crisis existencial, para dedicarse de lleno a la escultura. La constante evocación del arte primigenio y el magismo inherente que desprende este recuerdo nos remiten a un mundo arcaico y poético.
En cuerpo, corazón y alma, Manuel Solà se entrega a la causa del arte para erigir un discurso humanista y ético acoplado a la contemporaneidad que desafia la malicia de un mundo globalizado que cultiva descaradamente el individualismo y el materialismo.
El arte es y da vida, más vida, y en el caso de Manuel Solà, hasta el extremo. La línea entre vivir y sobrevivir es tan frágil que conmueve. "Soy", exclama, un artista marginal bregado para poder sondear aquello subterráneo, aquello que no es visible, del por qué de las cosas.
