According to the legend, an old woman travelling across the mountains was once rejected by the villagers. In her despair in seeing their inhospitality, she cursed the land into an icy valley, forbidding farmers and shepherds to feed their animals. Later on, hikers such as William Windham et Richard Pococke would describes the glacier as a Greenland sea that froze while in the storm. The term "Mer de Glace" sea of ice was then used.
Unfortunately it has melted through the years and nowadays very little remains. Only a rocky valley with the scars of an antique ice giant. Nevertheless, the site hasn't lost its beauty and grandeur.
The artist approach is, on one hand to reflects upon the changes in nature due to rising temperatures, and on the other hand pay hommage to nature's beauty through the ages. The late afternoon sun shining through the valley in harmonious balance of light and darks as well as warms and cools, helps to grasp a sense of contemplation.

Luc is a young French figurative and impressionist artist. He graduated from Paris art school ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres in 2015, and studied graphic design at the London College of Communication. Realising his true call for painting and drawing, he pursued an academic training at the Princeton Academy of Arts, NJ, where he learned the techniques of the Dutch painters and marvelled at the discoveries from the Renaissance period.
In 2017, Luc had a chance to travel to Antarctica with his father, where he painted serial scenes from wildlife, seascapes and icebergs. This body of work allowed him to joined the American Society of Marine Artists, an association dedicated to artistic expression of sea and its history. Furthermore, Luc started showing his work throughout galleries in Maine, Connecticut and Massachusetts.
Luc's paintings are mostly inspired from nature (following the tradition of the Impressionists) and is keen on painting outside as much as he can, or paint from real life. He likes to focus on the mood of a landscape, the temperatures of objects and ambient light. Therefore colour theory and the work on values is something he is passionate about.
Although he already has proven beautiful capabilities in themes such as landscapes and seascapes, he Luc also likes to challenge himself in other disciplines such as portraits and still life. The red thread remains the same, a study of harmony through composition and palette work. His brushwork reminds us of the French impressionistic painters, very loose and evocative rather than too attached to the detail. It is about offering a feeling to the viewer, with a coherent and unified artpiece.
