Born in 1985, the sculptor Lovemore Bonjisi is the scion of a well-known Zimbabwean family of stone sculptors. He could not attend high school because he could not produce a birth certificate, an unfortunately well-known problem in Zimbabwe. So, at the age of twelve, he began learning the sculpting trade from his brother Lameck, who died in 2003. Bonjisis combines elements of Zimbabwean Shona culture with international contemporary forms of expression.
His works have been exhibited in numerous galleries (Germany, the Netherlands, Australia, the USA or Korea). Many of his sculptures are in private collections around the world. In 2007, Bonjisi visited the Czech Republic.
